The natural beauty of Cortina is undeniable and you will have plenty of time to explore the surrounds during your stay. The Dolomites are famous for cycling and rightly so as they present challenge and beauty in equal portions. Today’s ride starts with the Passo Falzarego climb which was part of stage 14 of the 2017 edition of the Giro d’ Italia. The segment is 10 km long with an average gradient of 5.5% so maybe you wont take the KOM from Steven Kruijswijk but you will enjoy every single pedal stroke of this majestic mountain range. The ride will then take a loop around the region known as Cinque Torri through tiny alpine villages ending up back in Cortina in time for a sumptuous lunch. You might even like a post ride massage.

Tonight, you are free to explore the lovely town of Cortina where you will find an eclectic mix of restaurants and cafés to suit all tastes.

The Advanced Ride Option will follow the same route out of Cortina and onto the Passo Falzarego climb but we will take in a larger loop around Piz Boe which is the highest mountain in the region (Sella Group). The scenery is stunning along the entire route with plenty of places for a coffee stop as we pass through several ski stations and tiny alpine villages. Once we are back in Cortina we will have a snack and then you will have time for a post ride massage.

Tonight, you are free to explore the lovely town of Cortina where you will find an eclectic mix of restaurants and cafés to suit all tastes.

Sightseeing outline

After a leisurely start to your morning you can look forward to another glorious day in Cortina. You might choose to explore some of the most beautiful and uncontaminated environments in the world or treat yourself to more shopping or indulge in everything your high-class resort has to offer – the choice is yours!

If you are feeling energetic or looking for a physical challenge there are many running, walking and hiking trails to choose from, ranging from easy to difficult, with numerous family run mountain Refugios where you can stop off for a rest and treat yourself to some of the mountain delicacies on offer! For those wanting the challenge of a more difficult hike up into the Dolomitti, we can organise a local guide. Our staff will happily assist you with any bookings.

Some of the highlights include: ‘The Cinque Torri’ – an amazingly beautiful mountain area, where you can explore first World War trenches and the WW11 Lagazuoi tunnel, wander through the open-air museum and lunch at Rifugio Averau where you will find the best food on the mountain. A must see is the glacial lake – ‘Lago di Sorapiss’ – with its incredible turquoise colour and awesome views of the mountains and the towns below. This place has to be seen to be believed! If this all sounds a bit too active for you we can check you into one of the many local spas for a treatment to relax you and get you into holiday mode.

Ride Outline

We transfer to the beautiful little town of Valdobbiadene today so we figured the nicest way to get there is to ride! We have mapped a route from Cortina to Valdobbiadene and you can essentially choose to ride as much of the route as you feel up to. The Giro d’ Italia regularly includes these roads in their routes in the Dolomites and many of the World Tour teams hold training camps in the region because of the huge choice of challenging terrain. We cover 3 major climbs in the first 70km and then it is mostly downhill for the final 90km.

Once we arrive at our Hotel you will have time for a quick shower and a change of clothes because we are off to a winery tour this afternoon…

We dine in at our Hotel tonight which is a special treat because the focus of the meals are local produce so you will not be disappointed.

Sightseeing Outline

After two days in Cortina, we transfer to the beautiful little town of Valdobbiadene, nestled in the hills of Prosecco and famous for its Prosecco wines. Once settled into your beautiful accommodation at Agriturismo Due Carpini (two horns), you have time to relax by the pool, indulge in a spa experience or sip a glass of Prosecco by the pool as you soak up the ambience and take in the stunning views of the vineyards and rolling hills around you. We can promise you that this setting is magical!

For the afternoon, we have planned a guided winery tour for the whole group (cyclists and non-cyclists). This is the perfect opportunity to further explore and indulge in the Prosecco trail, sample the specialty wines and get a lesson in the history of traditional wine making. A superb way to spend an unforgettable afternoon with your partner.

Time to change the pace a bit; after all you are on holiday so time for a sleep-in and a late breakfast before we head out for your next adventure on 2 wheels. We have selected a route that will showcase this beautiful region but still allow for a bit of much needed recovery.

Route is Valdobbiadene to Valdobbiadene through some of the most gorgeous vineyards on the planet. When you return we recommend you have a massage and spend the rest of the day relaxing within the resort or if you are feeling energetic, you can spend the day exploring one of the many medieval castles that are dotted around the Prosecco hills.

Tonight, you will have free time to explore the town of Valdobbiadene and eat at one of the many interesting local establishments or you could even choose to eat in Santo Stefano which is 300 metres from Due Carpini. We always get feedback that the exploring is half the fun and the meals in the region are rustic but delectable. Osteria all Terrazza is one of our favourites.

Advanced Ride If you are still feeling like you have plenty of energy after yesterday’s epic adventure then we have a slightly more challenging ride set up for you. We head in the same general direction as the other group but we head into the foothills first and along a ridgeline towards Monte Cimon. From there we drop back down into the valley between the vineyards and follow a loop through the heart of this wine growing mecca.

Sightseeing Outline

Today you can choose to spend the day within the resort, soaking up the surrounds and relaxing in among the vineyards or, if you are feeling energetic, you can spend the day exploring one of the many medieval castles that are dotted around the Prosecco hills.

Conegliano Castle, perched on the hilltop just above the old town of Valdobbiadene, is one of these gems. As you make your way up the hill you will walk along the ancient 11th century fortress walls which lead up to the medieval castle. After exploring this perfectly restored castle, you can rest at the bar restaurant which has breathtaking views of the surrounding Prosecco hills and the pre-Alps. The ideal setting for a scrumptious lunch along with another glass of Prosecco!

Wander back into the town where you can explore the quaint speciality stores, selling everything from antiques to local produce and explore the many monuments and architecture unique to this region. Did I mention you can buy more Prosecco!

We leave the hilly regions after today so we have a plan to make the most of this amazing terrain. No trip to the region is complete without a look at Monte Grappa so we have designed a route that will cut us through the mountains into Monte Grappa and then down into Asolo so that we can meet the rest of the group for lunch in Asolo. You can choose to change your clothes and stay on with the sightseeing group to check out this historic town or ride back to 20 odd Km back to Valdobbiadene for a nice round 100km for the day.

Tonight we dine at Trattoria alla Cima. Home style cooking with wonderful staff and an open fire grill. This family business has modernised with a new take on family recipes that have been handed down through the generations and we just love it.

Sightseeing Outline

A visit to the medieval town of Asolo, about a 35-minute drive from Valdobbiadene, is planned for those who love history and Romance. Asolo has been home to many famous Italians and foreigners, including the English poet Robert Browning who famously wrote: “Asolo, the beautiful place I used to dream about so often in the old days, till at last I saw it again and the dreams stopped.” In the late 1400’s it was also the home of the exiled Queen of Cyprus, Caterina Cornaro, hence a personal connection for our founder; Val!

The centre of the town has many narrow streets and various hidden alleys which can only be explored on foot. Explore the impressive gothic and baroque buildings in and around this mesmerising town. The beautiful frescoed facades make this town an outdoor museum. Important works by famous Italian artists adorn the chapels, castles and palaces of this intriguing town.

Highlights include Cornara Castle, the beautiful 16th century fountain in the central piazza, the elegant 15th century Palace and the remains of a Roman theatre. Shopping in Asolo is also a step back in time. Browse the many quaint shops, the famous antique stores and the specialty food stores within the town and stop along the way to refresh at a typical old-style tavern or outdoor café.

Its time to do something a bit different; today we ride to Venice. Our route will take us through Treviso where we will stop to enjoy a leisurely lunch on one of the beautiful canals. Apart from being a beautiful ancient city Treviso is home to the headquarters of clothing retailer Benetton, Sisley, Stefanel, Geox, Diadora and Lotto Sport Italia, appliance maker De’Longhi, and bicycle maker Pinarello. We never tire of seeing the stylish Trevigiani riding around on their city bikes as they go about their daily business. Once we complete our lunch we will make our way to the Parco San Giuliano where we will be collected and transported to Venice proper. No need to take your bike because the team will keep the bikes with them.

Once we make it to Venice you can join the sightseeing group for a walking tour that we have arranged or just wander off yourself to explore one of the most amazing cities in Europe, if not the world. We have our own map (which we will supply to you) of what we believe are the highlights of the city with many of them known mostly to locals.

Sightseeing Outline

Today we head off to the most romantic city in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site – the city of Venice! With its winding canals, ancient architecture, extravagant palaces and countless hidden passageways, Venice will take your breath away. There are only two ways to explore Venice – on foot or by water. A Gondola ride around the city is the perfect way to start your Venetian experience, followed by lots of walking! There is much to marvel at – the glamorous ornate palazzos, the colourful buildings lining the canals and the impressive cathedrals that dominate the skyline.

After a sumptuous lunch, we have arranged a walking tour of the city for those who wish to explore Venice’s cultural centrepieces and architectural treasures such as Teatro la Fenice, Scala del Bovolo, Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Cathedral, Campo San Giovanni e Paolo, the Rialto Bridge, Piazza San Marco and the stunning spiral staircase at the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo. The guided tour will inform you about the history, the people and the customs of this incredible city and give you a good base from which you can continue your own exploration of this city.
